Besides the four pillar forms"gung gee, fu hok, sup ying and tid sin", hung gar training includes many other empty had sets. Most of these others forms were incorporated into Hung Gar by number of different masters of the style. Not every Hung Gar lineage/branch practices all these forms. For example the Ng Ying Kuen or the Five Animals Fist form is not practiced or taught in the Lam family Hung Kuen.
Ng Ying Kuen
Five Shapes/Five Animals Fist
It is said that this set was created by Wong Fei Hung. Ng Ying Kuen or the five animal form is a long set which teaches the fighting concept and techniques of the five animals; Dragon (Lung), Tiger (Fu), Crane (Hok), Leapord (Pao), Snake (Sare). Although, many other gung fu styles teach or include the training of animals, hung gar is most probably the most famous of all animal styles. Each animal has a unique chractaristic and trains the body mind and spirit as a whole.
This set is almost same as Sup Ying Kuen. The only major difference between the two sets is that Ng Ying Kuen doesnt include the five elements section. Ng Ying Kuen is not practiced or taught in all Hung Gar lineages. Some lineages have left out this set mainly because of Sup Ying kuen which includes all five animals.
Lau Gar Kuen
Lau Family Fist
Lau Gar Kuen literally means "Lau Family Fist". Originaly a fist set from the "Mok Gar" style, Lau Gar Kuen was incorporated into the Hung system by grandmaster Lam Cho.
Compared to the 4 pillar forms, It is a rather short form performed in a square pattern which introduces the basics of the style such as the fundamental stances, footwork and techniques. Simple yet practical, this form teaches variety of open hand, fist and leg techniques. Lau Gar Kuen is often referred as the most polite form in Hung Gar due to the salutations in the beginning section of the form.
Mui Fa Kuen
Plum Flower Fist
Mui Fa Kuen literally means "Plum Blossom Fist" or simply Flower Fist. Mui Fa is a common theme in Chinese Martial Arts. Many other styles of gung fu, such as Choy Li Fut also has forms called Mui Fa. It is said that the original Mui Fa Kuen was a Northern Siu Lum set. There are different accounts about how and who by this form was incorporated into Hung gar.
This short and simple but very practical form is presented in four directions, like the petals of a Mui Fa (plum blossom), teaching attacking and defending in four basic directions. The Plum blossom set teaches the basic footwork and stances as wells as basic hand and leg techniques. The powerful tiger claw and Hung Gar's trade mark kiu sao the bridge hand are also introduce in this set.
Chin Cheung
The War Palm
Created by the famous hung gar master Lam Sai Wing, Chin Cheun is a short, repetitive yet an extremly practical and useful form. This set introduces many of the fundamental concepts and basics of the style with emphasis on the use of waist, hip rotation and open hand techniques. It also puts emphaises on development of hard external power, teaches the basic angels and methods of generating power.
Wu Deep Cheung
Butterfly Palm
Wu Deep Ceung is relatively short form compared to 4 pillar forms of Hung Gar. Buterfly Palm form originaly adapted from northern styles of gung fu is said to be brought into the hung gar system by a group of Hungga masters in the 1950s but there are also other theories.
Performed on a straight line, this form includes variety of hand and leg techniques as well as groundwork. The training of this form puts emphasies on the use of palms, quick transitions, short - rapid attacks. The set also makes use of high, areial kick. Overall this is a strong, fast, and useful fighting set.
Bong Bou Kuen

A northern praying mantis form, Bong Bo Kuen is said to be the first form created by the founder of the mantis sytem "Wong Long". This form can be found in most of the northern praying mantis systems. Practiced in the Lam family lineage of Hung Kuen, bung bou kuen contains a wide variety of rapid fighting techniques which are considered to be the faundemental and core techniques of the mantis style. The form covers variety of hand and leg,kicking techniques as well as various trapping and throwing(Khum Lah) methods and covers all ranges of combat.
